A statement from the Borno Police Command said that a fatal tragedy was avoided after a Boko Haram suicide bomber mistakenly detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while heading to a crowded market. Fortunately, nobody was harmed in the attack apart from the suicide bomber who died from the attack.
According to Damian Chukwu, Commissioner of Police, the incident happened on Saturday, 7:20pm.
The plan was to detonate the bomb in the crowded market in order to achieve as many fatalities as possible.
More police personnel have been deployed at the market and surrounding areas to add to those deployed in, most parts of the capital, to ensure the security of lives and property during this holy month of Ramadan.
