9 People are confirmed dead after the bus they were traveling in was shot at by bandits at the Ethiopian region of Banishangul Gumuz.
Intelligence sources report that attackers opened fire on a public transport bus killing 9 passengers and badly wounding seven others.
The rare incident happened in a region with high presence of security officers who are protecting the ongoing construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
This is a former rebel region and it is not surprising that even after they laid down arms, some elements maybe rising to show discontent with the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project.
There was rebellion in the Banishangul Gumuz region of Ethiopia 17 years ago but this ended when rebels here laid down their arms.
The bus was carrying 28 passengers.
