Ethiopian soldiers serving under AMISOM have been killed and their military transport truck destroyed after Shabaab terror group targeted their truck with an improvised explosive device outside the town of Halgan in Hiraan region of Somalia.
The terror group issued a statement through its media channels claiming it destroyed the Ethiopian military vehicle using a roadside explosive device (RIED) wounding and killing 20 troops on Monday.
Picture evidence and intelligence reports confirm the incident and high casualties. The attack was reinforced with a light arms fire targeting the rescue teams.
The group has increased attacks targeting AMISOM troops in the war torn country. It is expected the surge will remain steady as fighters’ morale remain high on recent successes. The terrorists continues to target vulnerable military supply and patrol routes.
Ethiopia MOD and AMISOM Communication has not commented on the attack.
