Egyptian army in an operation conducted in central Sinai left 14 terrorists killed and ten others arrested.
According to Egyptian military sources, the CT-operation launched five days ago has seen three car bomb destroyed and 10 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) defused. Assortment of terrorist’s weaponry, military clothing, and communications devices including mobile phones also recovered.
Islamist insurgency in restive Sinai Peninsula has gained momentum since the military toppled President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s oldest Islamist movement, in 2013 following mass protests against him.
The terrorist group known as Sinai province is linked to the Middle East-based terrorist group, Islamic State has been behind a spate of attacks in Egypt.
Terrorist activities has reduced in central Sinai but its more restive north, where Islamic State attacks on military and police checkpoints are common.
