The elite Danab Special Forces in Somalia have killed dozens of al Shabaab militants in Lower Jubba. The operation was backed by the allied international partners among them US troops in the Jubbaland state in the Lafta Anole neighborhood.
Unconfirmed HUMINT indicates that at least two dozen al Shabaab terrorists were killed in the joint operation that targeted their hideouts triggering a heavy gunfight that led to the herein mentioned casualties. The operation was planned and executed after numerous tip-offs of growing al Shabaab presence in the area by residents.
The joint operation is the first of its magnitude this year as al Shabaab seems to have stepped up its attacks both at home and in the region. Jubbaland has been a major battleground for the militants against the UN-backed troops and the Somali National Army in recent years.
International partners including the US’ East Africa Response Force (EARF) and Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have launched military operations both in Somalia and Kenya to counter the growing threat of al Shabaab in the region that appears to be conducting more daring and bold attacks on key targets.
