The United States has delivered 54 Humvees to Djibouti as part of a pledged $31 million aid to the Horn of Africa nation. The Humvees are set to be used by the Djiboutian Rapid Intervention Battalion (RIB).
The vehicles are said to have been delivered seven months ahead of schedule and were received in Djibouti in late December. The vehicles are expected to enhance the capability of the RIB to conduct mounted patrols and respond quickly to any mission as well as facilitate the RIB training spearheaded by the US.
According to AFRICOM, RIB, which is being trained and equipped by the United States, centers around a cadre of experienced Djiboutian officers and non-commissioned officers. Training provided by the US includes light infantry tactics, mission planning, weapons training, first aid, land navigation, communication exercises, and additional advanced instruction.
