Latest military reports from Jowhar town the headquarter of Hirshabelle state indicates that the Deputy Governor of Middle Shabelle Region was killed in a targeted grenade attack at his house on Sunday night.
Military assets from the area reports that Muhumad Sugal Osman was killed alongside his son through a grenade attack at his house in Jowhar. Corresponding reports from locals indicate a loud explosion was heard on Sunday night.
Though the assailants behind the attack have not been ascertained, the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab have been on an onslaught in their targeted killings from across the regions of Somalia. This is the second deputy governor to be killed from Middle Shabelle region within a month.
A finance official in the Middle Shabelle regional administration Abdullahi Shitawe was killed after the vehicle he was travelling in hit an IED in Bal’ad-Jowhar road.
