Craig Benedict Baxam a former U.S. Army soldier will be tried for attempting to provide material support Somali terror group al Shabaab.
According to the Department of Justice Craig Benedict Baxam was arrested after he was captured in Kenya while attempting to cross into Somalia.
Craig Benedict Baxam is a 24-year old who joined the Army in 2007, served in Baghdad and Korea a period that he managed to complete eight months of advanced intelligence and cryptology training.
Baxam secretly converted to Islam before he left the Army and then returned to Maryland in July 2011 from where he sought to move to Somalia and enlist in al Shabaab.
The 24-year old Craig Benedict Baxam flew to Kenya using his retirement savings besides several hundred dollars in cash offering for al Shabaab upon crossing to Somalia
Craig Baxam intended to get inside Somalia and join the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab but was arrested by Kenyan authorities while traveling on a bus near Mombasa.
Craig Baxam was held by the Kenyan Anti-Terrorism Police then later handed to the FBI for interrogation.
He will appear in a federal court in Maryland and if found guilty will get maximum of a 15 years in prison term
