At least five people were beheaded in a machete attack in an eastern area of the Democratic Republic of Congo, SIS souces revealed.
The victims were killed as they were going to work in the fields during morning hours, officials were told.
A resident of the village in the Congo beheading and who managed to escape, alerted the army of the insurgents who were alleged to be Islamists operating in Uganda.
According to an NGO that observes the violence, the final death toll from the massacre could be a lot higher. Teddy Kataliko, who heads the NGO, revealed that the army had found other bodies during searches of the area.
Kataliko blamed the attack on Ugandan Islamist rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militia that is believed to have killed more than 260 people in the final three months of last year, mostly with knives and machetes.
