The latest death of one of the ISIS militia group members in Syria amidst the ongoing war against ISIS has raised more concerns on the number of young Australians who have crossed the sea into joining ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
Sharky Jama, 25, is the latest victims of the war against ISIS in Syria. The 25 year old was killed in Syria alongside other ISIS militants. The former model and DJ from Melbourne, Australia is suspected to have moved to Syria and joined ISIS in the pretense of making a living in Syria.
The man’s death has prompted Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop’s sentiments on the relationship between the Australian government and Muslims living in Australia. He indicated that the “mistreatment of Muslims” in Australia could be one of the factors leading to the high number of Australians joining ISIS.
So far, 90 Australians have been confirmed as fighters who have joined the Sunni Muslim densely populated group of extremists despite the intense war against ISIS.
Australia has had several reports of its nationals joining ISIS and being killed in during war against ISIS. Recently, there were reports of an 18 year old from Melbourne, Australia who conducted a suicide assault in Ramadi, Iraq.
ISIS is currently gaining Ramadi as confirmed by Iraqi forces. There is great fear that the war against ISIS in Ramadi could not be a success as compared to the group’s loss in Tikrit.
Ramadi, located west of Baghdad according to ISIS is one of the group’s heartlands after they lost Tikrit.
