Canada has for the first time added two right-wing extremist organization to its federal government’s watch list. The move to include the right-wing extremism as a form of terrorism comes as attacks like New Zealand’s Christchurch increase in the world.
Blood & Honour was characterized by the government as an international neo-Nazi network whose ideology is derived from the National Socialist doctrine of Nazi Germany.
On the other hand, Combat 18 is killing unit of Blood and Honour and has been described as an extremist organization that has carried out violent actions, including murders and bombings.
Right-wing extremist groups in recent years have gradually moved from small groups of aggrieved individuals to people that incite and spew hate online to organized entities that commit crimes, murders as well as bombing.
On May 15, 2019, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern and other government leaders in adopting the Christchurch Call to Action, a global pledge to eliminate terrorist and violent extremist content online, following the deadly mosques attack in New Zealand’s Christchurch in March.
