Somali Federal Government troops have killed an al Shabaab operative in Mogadishu following a shootout. According to Somali deputy police chief, Zakiya Hussein, the security forces eliminated a man suspected to have been planning to shoot soldiers at a checkpoint.
The operative was killed at the Bondhere Junction in Mogadishu and a pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorist. Somali forces have stepped up operations in and outside of Somali capital.
