Burundi’s political stand and future following a failed coup attempt to oust President Pierre Nkurunziza shows a clear picture of how the country’s military is able to safeguard its leadership strategy.
Unfolding events in Burundi after the failed attempts show that coup leaders who had plotted to overthrow the current government have been arrested.
The Military coup which had been staged by Major General Godefroid Niyombare on Wednesday flopped after forces loyal to President Pierre conducted a successful operation to make a stop to the coup in Burundi.
Emergence of coup d’etats in Burundi was last seen around July 1996 when Perre Buyoya overthrew Sylvestre Ntibantunganya.
Burundi loyal military’s ability to reverse the attempted coup is a show of a relatively stable democracy in the current regime.
































I take the story of the coup plot with a pinch of salt……it appears to be stage managed to rally support towards the president’s bid for a 3rd term. H.E has already assured the coup plotters of amnesty. Anyway, I can say it was a well calculated strategy.
