The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat has urged the international community to provide appropriate support to Somalia and AMISOM to consolidate security gains in the country.
The message came as the commissioner condemned the attacks on AMISOM troops that left 6 Burundian soldiers dead. The attack happened near Bal’ad after heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters stormed AU forward operating base (FOB) manned by Burundi soldiers prompting hours of fighting.
Mahamat reaffirmed that the AU remains committed to working with the Government of Somalia to further consolidate peace and security in the country.
