The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab group operating in Somalia regions continue to escalate its insurgency with notably emplacing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or Landmines, or Roadside bombs targeting security forces on Main Supply Routes (MSRs).
IEDs pose huge threat to security forces as well as to Somali civilians and as such, ATMIS Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), Ethiopian Troops have embarked on operation aimed at searching and detonating these Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which are buried on Main Supply Routes by retreating and defeated Al-Shabaab militants.
ATMIS troops and SNA troops have enhanced counter-IED capabilities which include the capacity to apply the elements of speed and surprise when acting on real-time actionable intelligence on militant positions.
ATMIS Kenya Defense Forces and Ethiopian troops in Jubaland State have intensified operations, conducting ground surveillance operations in search of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that hamper movement on the battlefield and disrupt the movement of goods and people in the area.

ATMIS in support of Somali National Army troops have enhanced counter-IED capabilities which include the capacity to apply the elements of speed and surprise when acting on real-time actionable intelligence on militant positions.
This operation is key towards stemming down IED threat across the respective areas of operations/sectors of the ATMIS troops.
