Several al Shabaab militants have been killed in heavy clashes that erupted between Somali National Army (SNA) troops backed by Ethiopian soldiers and the shebab jihadists.
The fighting broke out on the outskirts of Goofgaduud village, located about 35Km north of Baidoa city after Somali troops backed by Ethiopian soldiers attacked Al-Shabab customs base. The troops launched the operation after receiving reports the militants were collecting extortion money from locals who use a water well, one soldier died in the firefight.
Both sides exchanged heavy fire that left at least a dozen al Shabaab fighters killed and several others wounded. The situation has returned to normal following the gunfight with reports that the allied forces have managed to flush out the militants from the area.
