MANDERA, Kenya, March 28, at least six people were reported to have been killed and others injured in a suspected militia attack in Kenya’s northeast Mandera county near the Ethiopian border.
According North Eastern regional coordinator, Mohamud Saleh, the attack happened in Banisa village. Saleh confirmed that most of the victims came from Degodia clan which has been having disputes with Garre community.
The fight broke between Garre and Degodia communities in the area. Police was deployed to quell the situation, Saleh added.
According local residents, the attackers were revenging the killing of two men inside Ethiopia.
Both Garre and Degodia are said to have armed militias in Ethiopia who are used in clan fighting in the region.
The two warring clans of Degodia and Garre have been fighting for supremacy and County leadership control for years.
