The recently designated Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to wreak havoc in its violent campaign in Beni in North Kivu. At least 10 people were killed using machetes and knives in the village of Samboko Chanichani located in the western part of the Bambuba-Kisiki group, Beni-Mbau sector.
Another 5 people were killed including two women and two vehicles torched in an ambush from ISCAP along the Beni-Kasindi road axis in Kilya and Makisabo, Malambo group, Ruwenzori sector. The attack is believed to have been orchestrated by the cells of ISCAP with camps in Virunga National Park.
The group has been activating its cells both in Beni and Irumu Territories in the campaign to establish a caliphate in the region as is in line with ISIS-central mandate. ISCAP has been reinforcing territory in both North Kivu and Ituri Provinces while at the same time kidnapping and actively recruiting members into its ranks in an attempt to establish dominance in a region that is an arena for numerous rebel groups.
