Anti-terror police (ATPU) in Diani, Kwale County on Sunday 14th August 2016 gunned down a terrorist identified as Mohammed Bakari and recovered two hand grenades from him.
Mohammed Bakari alias “Polingo an Al-Shabaab returnee from Somalia was gunned down Sunday at dawn in Vingirika village after he hauled a hand grenade at the police officers.
Police reports indicate that Bakari has been on their most wanted terror suspect linked with several attacks and notably killings of village elders and police officers in Kwale County.
Police launched a manhunt to apprehend two of his accomplice who escaped a police dragnet.
Msambweni police boss Benjamin Rotich confirmed the 3a.m. incident saying the killing of Bakari was a breakthrough for security agents.
Rotich as noted that the killing of Bakari was made possible by members of public calling on them to continue volunteering information and help root out terrorists and other criminals in the County.
