Morocco’s Interior Ministry confirmed the breaking up of a militant cell loyal to the Islamic State. The group has ties in Morocco and the Netherlands and were planning to conduct attacks on both states.
The terrorist cell is just one among the many recent culprits of the string of uncovered and dismantled militant cells linked to any known terror group. The authorities on Monday said that the group was operating near the northern city of Nador when they uncovered.
One member living in the Netherlands was planning to use bombs and guns at Dutch security forces. It was reported that the cell was planning assassinations on specific targets they accused of being against the Islamic State’s beliefs and doctrines.
Investigations further revealed that the members of the cell were receiving paramilitary training in the one of the forest near Nador and were holding secret meetings.
ISIS is slowly taking root in the Maghreb countries like Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco as citizens from the said countries are now returning home after training and joining ISIS and establishing their own Jihadi battlefield in the countries according to security experts.
Morocco has established a major counter-terrorism unit that is dubbed the ‘Moroccan FBI’ and is linked to the dismantling of the Jihadi militant cells that are forming in the country and threatening the country’s security.
This particular cell dismantling can be attributed to the sharing of intelligence between the Dutch and Moroccan governments that saw the totally arrest of all the known members of the cell in both countries. This is evidence that no single state can totally deal with the terror groups but collective effort is essential in the fight a
