AMISOM and SNA forces continue to make significant gains against the Al Qaeda branch in Somalia, the Al-Shabaab.
On Sunday 17th July 2016, the allied forces managed to dislodge militants from key port town in southern Somalia.
AMISOM and SNA dawn military operations saw Al-Shabaab being repelled from the strategic port town of Marka, located some 110 kilometers south west of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
Army troops from Somalia national army and the African Union forces and tanks rolled into the coastal city, without encountering much resistance Al-Shabaab.
Marka town which was first liberated from Al-Shabaab in 2012 has been at the center of chaos and turmoil over the past few years but the joint forces have managed to recapture it from hands of the militants.
