African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) repelled an al Shabaab attack in Hiiraan region after a clash with the combatants. The fighting flared up after heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters ambushed AMISOM convoy traveling along Bula-burte-Jalalaqsi road.
AMISOM troops have recently stepped up operations to flush al-Shabaab fighters from the regions in South and center of the country. Hiiraan has been the center stage for various operations by the al-Qaeda affiliated terror organization in Somalia.
In a recent report, it is believed that al Shabaab in Hiiraan area has been moving fighters to Lower Shabelle and as such it makes sense that the group attacks AMISOM convoys and position to replenish on supplies and weapons.
