America has registered immense victory over terror including its war on al-Qaeda and other terrorist networks in an operation that saw to the cutting off of the latter’s cash flow networks.
The CIA, FBI and the United States Treasury tracked down and froze £14million in assets that belonged to al-Qaeda and other terror related networks in the past two years.
America’s intelligence sources revealed that groups including al-Qaeda have had their terror activities severely disrupted after the cutting off millions of pounds intended for their arms-buying operations, adding that there is a huge effort being made to stop the financing of terrorism both in terms of terror groups and states who sponsor them.
America is out to disrupt financial sources for terrorist and the countries that support terrorist activities so that they will not have means to carry out their plans.
Al qaeda’s leader, Ayman Zawahiri, who took the position from Osama bin Laden, is increasingly looking for new ways to channel cash as America hunts it down.
Al-Qaeda had almost £9million frozen in 2013 but last year the figure dropped by nearly £1 million when some funds were released as they had been wrongly linked to the group.
Other terrorist groups that have had their accounts tracked and blocked include Gaza’s armed wing of Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, the so-called party of God, which was also targeted by Treasury investigators who managed to freeze almost £5 million from the group.
