20th November 2015, Though Al Shabaab militant group remains a major security threat to Kenya, the government has over past couple of months put stringent security measures across the country. Kenyan security agencies (Military, Police Service, Intelligence Service) have been working closely in making sure the country is safe.
Al Shabaab militant group on the other hand has suffered continuous blows. The militant group has been dislodged in various towns and locality across Somalia; hundreds of its fighters have on the other hand been killed by SNA and AMISOM forces.
The Al Qaeda affiliated branch in Somalia is yet faced with another challenge of rivalry with Islamic State faction where some of its fighters have shifted allegiance.
According intelligence reports, youths who join Al Shabaab are usually promised a good lifestyle and good pay but once they cross over to Somalia, things turns against them.
Hundreds of youths continue to defect from the Somali based jihadist group and returning home. Interior Cabinet Secretary, Joseph Nkaissery said the country is ready to absorb and integrate them back to the society.
Kenyan government announced amnesty offer to Al Shabaab youths in Somalia who want to surrender to the government and since then more than 700 militants have defected and denounced the militant group.
Returnees who have narrated the ordeals they went through while in the terrorist camps are shocking. The military are first indoctrinated with radical extreme teaching and then receive military training before assigned on different missions.
The ideologies and teachings of terrorists brainwash the newly recruits apart from being lured with good package, they also secure a place in paradise if they die fighting (as martyrs) that the doctrine.
Learning of being fooled many have managed to escape though some defectors are in hiding for fear of reprisals, especially at the Coast, Nairobi and North Eastern.
The government through Interior CS Nkaissery urged Kenyan youth still fighting alongside terror groups planning attacks to denounce violence and preach peace.

How porous are our borders? How did they cross back to Kenya?
Potentially deadly cells!
No cause for celebration…that’s 700 potential terrorists…NIS and anti-terror police kazi kwenu
It could be in pretense (a plan) and then they kaboom us…..
Stop telling us trash organize our security system. One al shabaab can cause terrible damage we should always be on the lookout and stop this jubilee business of lying. Al shabaab has members from allover the world
Please don’t take for granted the peace we have had for some time. It has been a while since those deceived fellows attacked us. So give credit where its due and don’t just critize for the sake of it.
Kenya should do the same thing Britain does to her nationals who join terror groups-get banished frm ever entering the country. Let them stay and die in the wilderness
i agree to.hii kitu hiwezi watoka juu ni kiapo walipewa.wanajipeana juu wanaona wamewezekana bt watafanya mathara hijawai onekana.wakae uko ndo waishie uko.
Kill them wé dont need them.
Am not sure about it…
I hope the CS and at el are wide awake. Since terrorists are becoming wiser by day…like what we saw in France, they came in seeking for asylum and hell broke loose!
Kudos for the good job. We were at a dark place.
arrest them cos thy ill cause….????
sawa mzee jose, lakini wachunguzwe kwa makini!!!!
Good but no room for complacency. With Daesh being crushed in Syria & Iraq our country must be on the lookout for dangerous returnees.
