A militant leader who allegedly helped mastermind the 2013 Westgate Mall attack in Kenya was killed last week in a U.S. drone attack, the Pentagon confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement that was released by the U.S military confirmed that Adan Garar, believed as a key operative responsible for coordinating Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab’s external operations, was killed on March 12 in a drone strike.
The statement said he posed a major threat to the region and the international community and was connected to the West Gate Mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya.
The deadly attack has been described as another significant blow to the Al-Shabaab terrorist organization in Somalia.
