A Kenyan alshabaab recruit, Abdi Kimani, has been found dead after he committed suicide in a house located in Jilib that is used to accommodate foreign recruits.
The recruit had stayed in the house for three weeks and is the third of five who have committed suicide so far with an unknown number said to have escaped.
The recruits undergo intense and inhumane training with unrealistic expectations leading to suicide or deserting. Flooding of al-shabaab camps after recent heavy rains has also led to a large number of them defecting after top al-shabaab leaders rescued themselves and left the recruits to suffer.
Reports of women killing themselves and deserting have also surfaced after they claimed they were sexually assaulted by al-shabaab recruiters.
Those who survive a suicide attempt are lashed for attempting murder.
