An Al-Shabaab operative in Beledweyne, Hiraan region of the central Somalia on Monday night was killed after a landmine he was planting on the road exploded prematurely.
The unidentified man believed to be an Al-Shabaab operative was planting the explosive at the road linking Ugas Khalif Airport to Beledweyne town. The route is frequently used by AMISOM and SNA convoys.
According to the Governor of Hiraan region Ali Jeyte Osman, preliminary investigation had indicated the man had planned kill army troops who frequently uses that road. Innocent civilians would have been targeted in the roadside IED.
Governor Osman called on the security agencies to take action against any party causing insecurity in the region.
