The Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab continue to upscale attacks from various regions of Somalia. Subsequently counterterrorism operations also continue to mount pressure on the Islamist militants’ group that has persistently waged insurgency in the Horn of Africa nation for more than a decade.
In the latest counterterrorism operations in Middle and Lower Shabelle regions of Somalia, several militants have reportedly been killed and others wounded according to military sources and corresponding open sources reports.
Intesified joint military operations have in past few days seen militants killed and many villages, towns and localities captured.
In one operation at least four Al-Shabaab militants including a senior leader who was in charge of Basra town for the militants were killed and troops destroyed the so-called courts run by the militants.
In another separate operation carried out on Monday 5th, October, ten Al-Shabaab fighters were neutralized near Barire town of Lower Shabelle. The two senior operatives identified as Isse Timaweyne also known as Abu Dhere who was in charge of who was Al-Shabaab’s operations and other identified as Qorey who was in charge of Zakat in the region were also neutralized in the intelligence-led operation.
The terror militants have stepped up their assault against the Somali government and African Union Mission in Somalia troops and their bases across southern and central parts of the Horn of African nation, conducting ambushes and planting landmines.
