OSINT SUMMARY
10th January 2016, Recent reports coming from northeastern part of Kenya reveal that members of Al Shabaab fighters clashed with a local clan militia at the locality of El-Kolisha located between Elwak and stretching to the border with Somalia.
Al Shabaab militants who have been causing havoc in the past few weeks in NEP region especially in Mandera County met their match.
According to a villager who witnessed the incident and speaking on condition of anonymity said Al Shabaab militants had crossed over to the Kenyan village in NEP and as usual started demanding resident to pay Zakat (levy on wealth) to them.
Residents who were angered by militants’ extortion demand, agreed they would comply to pay them the zakat from their livestock returns by evening.
The clan militia vowed that they will revenge the death of one person who hailed from this village and who was among the two travelers killed by Al Shabaab militants when they attacked the Makkah bus just weeks ago.
The clan militia using all sort of crude weapons raided the militants who were unaware of the revenge plot injuring undisclosed number of combatants.
The clan militia also seized one rifle from the Al Shabaab combatants.
Don’t know whether to like the fact that alshabaab met their match as you say OR be petrified that there are actually clan militias in Kenya ..

These militia characters are obviously no pushovers. Elsewhere in the country, we would be hearing ‘serikali saidia’. I suppose its decades of not counting on the government for anything. Even if those terrorists come back for revenge, don’t expect them to go crying to the authorities for assistance. Also, they share the same philosophy that we in other parts do not, namely, this thing called life is overrated.
