Garissa University Massacre Orchestrators Charged With 162 Counts Of Terrorism

Osman Abdi, Mohamed Abdikar, Hassan Aden, Sahal Diriye and Tanzanian Rashid Charles were on Friday 8^th January charged in a Kenyan court for 162 counts of terrorism.

The 5 terror suspects were charged with orchestrating the Garissa University Massacre in April 2, 2015 that led to the death of 148 people and left other injured in the worst terror attack in the East African country.

The masterminds of the infamous Garissa University Massacre of April 2, 2015 were arraigned in a Nairobi Court days after the University announced the official opening following the indefinite closure.

Among the charged was the in-house security guard Osman Abdi who is said to have been the inside liaison of the attackers according to the college’s chief Security Officer. Osman was supposed to be off duty on the fateful night only to be found in the college compound during the attack and was arrested among the suspects.

According to employee records, Osman was employed at the institution barely three months before the terror attacks and upon tracking his movements they proved suspicious.

Osman is charged with 162 counts of terrorism that led to the murder of 148 people alongside Mohamed Abdikar, Hassan Aden, Sahal Diriye and Tanzanian Rashid Charles-charged with being illegally in the country.

In line with arrest of the security guards and his involvement in the terror attack measures have been put in place by all public and private entities in thoroughly vetting their personnel and staff to limit the chances of the Somali based militants infiltrating the system and launch attacks internally.

The Kenyan security agencies have in the past year mounted clandestine operations employing cyber and human intelligence to dismantle al Shabaab cells forming and operating in the country especially in the NEP, coastal region and the capital Nairobi.
