In yet another heinous act of terror, the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab gunmen on early Sunday morning (14th February 2021) shot and killed three expectant women in Daynile district of Mogadishu, Somalia.
The killing comes at the time Somali leaders are in deadlock over the election, which would pave way for a transition, after four years of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo expired on February 8.
Corresponding open sources indicate that three women were killed while another two were critically injured during the shooting whose motive is yet to be established. According to police report, the injured women are recuperating in a Mogadishu hospital.
The victims have been identified as Fartun Hassan and Muno Hassan who were sisters and the third was Fadumo Sheikh Nur.
Al-Shabaab continue to target security forces, senior government officials, and even innocent civilians in their quest to overthrow the weak Federal Government of Somalia. Police report indicate that the women were heading to the Ministry of Defense where they worked as cleaners possibly explains why they were targeted.
The Islamists Al-Shabaab continue to demonstrate their capability to target even the highly fortified zones and facilities especially in the capital Mogadishu. The three women were killed very near the Defense Ministry which is highly secured as it also plays host to the Chief of Defense Forces General Yusuf Rageh Odowaa.
In another incident, on Saturday, 13th February 2021, an Al-Shabaab suicide car bomber tried to force himself at the checkpoint at Sayidka junction in the vicinity of the presidential palace in the capital Mogadishu. Security forces opened fire at the vehicle loaded with explosives. At least seven people were wounded after the vehicle loaded with explosives exploded.
It is against Islam teaching to especially kill innocent women and children, but the militants unjustly continue killing women and children, besides rape others and often hold some hostage for ransom.
