Recent open source reports from Somalia indicate that on Monday evening, Al-Qaeda (AQ) linked Al-Shabaab attempted ambush on Somali army base in Siinka Dheer, outside Mogadishu was successfully repulsed.
Al-Shabab militants who have increased attacks during Ramadhan laid ambush on the base heavy gun battle but were met with stiff resistance from the soldiers at the base. However, casualties from both sides were reported.
Al-Shabaab who usually thrive on propaganda, hurriedly claimed responsibility of the attack and exaggerated the number of casualties on Somali soldiers.
Al-Shabab laid similar ambush two days ago at Sanguuni Lower Shabelle region, though where they killed one and injured four U.S. soldiers; they lost 25 of their fighters in the gun battle that lasted for more than an hour. According to authorities, the situation in Siinka Dheer has come back to normal this morning.
