Somali-based al Qaeda affiliated terror organization- al Shabaab has conducted an ambush targeting an African Union peacekeepers convoy. The ambush on the AMISOM convoy occurred Bulo-Marer located in the southwestern Lower Shabelle in Somalia.
The group is said to have detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) that destroyed one of the vehicles ferrying the troops. While the number of casualties has not been released, it is feared there could be several fatalities.
The attack comes barely a day since a key bomb-maker for the group was arrested and paraded in Jubbaland state. However, security officers are on high alert especially during the holy month as al Shabaab have vowed increased attacks on indiscriminate targets both in Somalia and the East African region at large.
