Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that an airstrike killed the Islamic State group’s second in command in Somalia in the northwest region of Puntland on Sunday.
According Somalia authorities, the airstrike conducted near Hiririo village in the Iskushuban district of Bari region on Sunday afternoon targeted the IS commander identified as Abdihakim Dhoqob alongside another colleague who were travelling in a car.
Though IS in Somalia is far outnumbered by a rival jihadist group, the Al-Shabaab, which is aligned with al-Qaeda the group has been extending its presence in other regions of Somalia.
