Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) has stopped a terror plot in the country’s capital Addis Ababa by the Somalia-based al Qaeda affiliate al Shabaab. The planned attack was orchestrated by an unidentified number of organized terrorists who were preparing to attack in public places where many people meet in the capital, Addis Ababa, including conference hall.
Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye said that the attack was being planned through a joint effort between the al Shabaab back in Somalia and an organized local cell based in Addis Ababa.
Following the botched attack, security officers in Addis Ababa arrested the suspects and recovered evidence such as, photographs of target areas, passports and fake documents that were fundamental in planning and executing the would be violent and deadly attack.
Ethiopia and other countries in the East African region have continuously suffered attacks by the Somalia-based al Shabaab especially seeing that they have troops deployed to Somalia under AMISOM to fight al Shabaab and restore peace and stability in the country.
