Event-1 Summary: October 3rd, 1993, U.S. Army force drawn from US Army Rangers from Bravo Company, 3rd Battallion, 75th Ranger Regiment, 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D), C-Squadron, , and the US Air Force Combat Controllers and Para-Rescuemen Unit and helicopters from 1st Battalion, 160th Special Ops Aviation Regiment deployed in Mogadishu to capture Mohamed Farah Aidid’s top lieutenants during a meeting in the city but the operation failed.
Two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by rocket-propelled grenades over Mogadishu and 18 of the US Army Rangers and Delta Force teams were killed.
Hundreds of civilians caught in a fierce firefight died.
