National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General, Major General Philip Wachira Kameru was sworn in September 2014 as the new NIS Director and immediately began a new chapter in serving the Republic of Kenya in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya.
With little known about the intelligent director of Military Intelligence, Major Gen Kameru has provided outstanding leadership in Kenya as the mastermind behind the success of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The National Intelligence Service Director General took up office when Kenya’s security was on the rocks amid several terrorist attacks from Al Shabaab militia group based in Somalia.
However, it is through his intelligence skills, speed and discreet way of strategizing operations that most of such attacks have been preempted from taking place in Kenya.

Despite some of the attacks in Kenya in which AL Shabaab have claimed responsibility, the director of Military Intelligence of Kenya Major General Phili Kameru has effectively delivered his service in Kenya’s security docket.
Under his watch, Kenya’s spy agency has achieved a milestone in the fight against terrorism in Kenya and Somalia. Through sharing credible and reliable information, Kenya’s intelligence team has been on the forefront of guiding special security agencies on strategic avenues where such attacks could take place.
As the National Intelligence Service Director General Major Gen Philip Wachira Kameru continues to serve the country in ensuring that Kenya becomes a more secure nation, the government is on the other hand working on intensifying the war against terrorism in Kenya and across the border in Somalia.
