The Islamic State Mozambique (ISM) has yet again left a letter for residents that shows its intentions to create a caliphate in Cabo Delgado while threatening Christians and Jews. The letter which is believed to have been left in the Macomia district has been circulating on social media.
The letter delivers a message promising to slaughter all the Christians and Jews unless they convert to Islam or pay tax. The letter also declares what they call an endless war on the Mozambican army and called upon all Muslims to take part or face the consequences.
The note is addressed to the “Mozambican crusader army,” Muslims, Christians, and Jews in Mozambique, in that order. To the army: “We will escalate the war against you until you submit to Islam… Our desire is to kill you or be killed, for we are martyrs before God, so submit or run from us.”
The militancy also threatened the Muslim residents who attempted to work with the government forces and their allies as the fight was not with them but if need be they would find them and they would meet the same end as the kafirs.
The message being perpetuated by ISM to the Christians and Jews is loud and clear and in line with a growing IS rhetoric, ISM offers three choices: submit to Islam, pay tax, or accept “endless war.” The letter written in the Swahili language is an indication that ISM has been exploring long-term plans that include the creation of a caliphate in Cabo Delgado.
