Somali National Army (SNA) backed by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) killed at least seven Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terrorists in southern prefectures of the war-torn country.
Initial reports indicate that the terrorists had attempted to probe a military base in Dinsor, a town in the southern Bay region of Somalia.
The allied troops comprising of Somali National Army and ATMIS forces in Dinsor town of Bay region successfully repulsed an attack on Army base by al-Shabab and killed seven terrorists.
Also, at least two Al-Shabaab fighters had surrendered to security operators in Luuq, Gedo region of Somalia and handed over their weapons.
The Islamist militants often carry out attacks against government and AU bases in southern and central Somalia despite intensified security and army presence in those areas.
The latest onslaught against the terror group comes as joint allied troops have intensified operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists across the Somalia during the electioneering period, but the terror operatives are still hiding in the rural areas of those regions, conducting persistent ambushes and planting land mines and IEDs.
