Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahedeen (HSM) the official al Qaeda affiliate in the horn of Africa claimed an attack on government troops in Lower Shabelle. The attack included an improvised explosive device that hit an SNA checkpoint in Warmahan village located in the outskirts of Afgooye town in the region.
The bomb blast killed at least four government soldiers and injured several others in an attack that the HSM termed as a direct response to the government’s deployment of troops to the majorly al Shabaab dominated central and south Somalia.
The attack comes amid hundreds of government soldiers being deployed in the region to liberate areas under al-Shabaab fighters. In cooperation with US military, Somali government intensified aerial attack against al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia.
