US Africa Command (AFRICOM) has claimed a drone strike in the vicinity of Jilib along the adjoining road to Kismayo. The airstrike occurred on September 3rd in the morning where the strike hit a vehicle belonging to an HVT al Shabaab leader in the region.
Jilib has served as an al Shabaab stronghold with its strategic placement that facilitates the terror organization’s operations and supply route to other parts of southern Somalia.
The strikes a few days after the United States reiterated its commitment to eradicating al Shabaab by disrupting their networks, supply routes and neutralizing terrorists that cause harm to the people of Somalia.
