Somali armed group Al-Shabaab carried an ambush attack on AMISOM’s Djiboutian troops near their forward operating base (FOB) near Bulo-burde town, some 200km (125 miles) north of the capital, Mogadishu.
Corresponding reports from various open sources say that a fierce clash ensued after the Al-Qaeda aligned militants attacked at peacekeepers’ base. The AU troops however managed to repulsed the attack.
Heavy weaponry could be heard through the town. Also, casualties were reported from both sides.
Bulo Burde is a strategic town situated along the Shebelle River and is the second largest town in Hiiran after the provincial capital Beledweyne.
The attack comes after an Al-Shabaab suicide explosion killed civilians and injured six others, including SNA soldiers in the capital, Mogadishu.
Mogadishu has seen deadly terror attacks, with most of them, were claimed by al Shabaab.
The Al-Qaeda affiliated group has been fighting for more than ten years to topple the weak backed government of Somalia.
