A senior Somali police commander on Tuesday, 2nd July 2019 died after succumbing to critical wounds he sustained in a targeted car bombing in Galkayo city, Mudug regional capital of Somalia on Monday, 1st July 2019.
A low scale car bomb explosion claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabab extremist group left Major Awil Nur Roble, who was the chief of the police in southern part of Galkayo city hospitalized with critical wounds.
The explosion resulted from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) fitted in his vehicle.
The explosion comes after another low scale vehicle improvised explosive device (VBIED) exploded on 30th June outside the main headquarters of the money transfer company Dahabshil, in Bakara market of the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu where 3 civilians were injured, according to police reports.
These latest terror events signals a possible resumption of terrorist activities in the capital Mogadishu and in north-central Somalia after a lull in attacks in many regions of the horn of Africa nation.
