Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, who was also Linda Boni counterterrorism director has been redeployed to Isiolo County after four years of service.
Mr Kanyiri was deployed in Lamu in 2016 following spate of Al-Shabaab attacks that were being witnessed in the coastal county.
Between 2014 and 2015, various parts of Lamu including Mpeketoni, Kibaoni, Witu, Hindi and Basuba in Boni forest suffered from brunt of the Somalia-based terror group.
Mr Kanyiri has been pivotal on security matters, mainly on issues of Al-Shabaab attacks, radicalisation and violent extremism. In the four years of his services, he played a major role in the fight against Al-Shabaab militants operating from the vast Boni forest.
The Government of Kenya appointed him the director of the ongoing Operation Linda Boni which has been going on inside Boni Forest since 2017.
He has also been active in fighting the drug menace which has affected many youths in Lamu.
He has been redeployed to Isiolo, a county that also is battling with challenges of youth radicalisation and violent extremism.
Mr. Kanyiri who has confirmed of his transfer highlighted that he is among the 70 county commissioners who have been moved to different areas in mass transfers recently announced by Interior Ministry.
He has been replaced by Mr Simon Macharia transferred from Homa Bay County.
