The commander 52nd battalion of Somali military, general Mohamed Ahmed has announced that the government forces in Hiiraan region have killed dozens of Al-Shabaab fighters in the recent operations conducted at Moqokori district and its environs.
Mohamed said that following a number of operations and security sweeps conducted in the past four months, the government troops had killed over 80 al Shabaab militants and seized numerous weapons and ammunition.
The operations which have been mainly in Moqokori and surrounding area were conducted in line with a presidential directive. The commander called the local people in Hiiraan region particularly Moqokori and surrounding areas to collaborate with government forces and take an active role in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
