Somalia President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo launched an operation dubbed ‘operation lightning strike’ days to Eid al Fitr.
In this operation, the Somali army forces are expected to open multi-fronts in defensive positions near Tukkraq village of Sool to combat Al-Shabaab remnants destroying their havens.
The operation started in a high gear; sending armament, ammunition and trained troops to the battlefront to regions perceived to be under Al-Shabaab control.
Planes loaded with crates containing rounds of ammunition, dissembled heavy artillery, mortars and spare parts were seen at the Adan Adde International Airport of Mogadishu.
The fully equipped military unit is estimated at a total of 600-1000 soldiers, who had been trained at the Turkish base and other foreign supported training grounds in and around Mogadishu.
According to security officials, ‘operation lightning strike’ is largely meant to counter violent extremists planning to spew violence over the upcoming Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.
