Egypt’s army announced that it repulsed a fresh “infiltration attempt” across the border with Libya. The country’s air force succeeded in destroying the convoy of 10 4×4 vehicles loaded with arms and ammunition on the border of Egypt with Libya.
The restive border area has experienced sporadic clashes between Egyptian security forces and smugglers or gunmen with most attempts of infiltration successfully foiled.
Libya had remained dogged by chaos since 2011 when a bloody NATO-backed uprising led to the ouster and death of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Moreover, Libya has become a haven for militants from different terror groups that have sought haven from the Middle East and the Sahel.
