A high-ranking al Shabaab commander has defected and presented himself to the Somali government forces in Burhakabo town in Bay Region. A source with the authorities revealed that Ibrahim Hassan Ali turned himself in after he fell out with the group for deviating from the original agenda.
Hassan Ali has been constant communication with the authorities offering valuable intel to them in a move that has been credited for a series of averted attacks on military positions in the Bay Region.
Speaking to the media at Burhakabo district police station, said he jumped ship because he was losing patience with the group merciless ideology and bombing of public places killing innocents especially women and children.
The number of defections within al Shabaab has increased since the defection of al Shabaab’s spokesman Mukhtar Robow. The militants have been taking advantage of the presidential pardon offered by President Farmajo last year, getting rehabilitated and readying to get reintegrated into the society.
