Nigerien Defense and Security Forces (FDS) have launched counter-offensive operations against Boko Haram insurgent group operating within the territory of neighbouring Nigeria.
According to a report by a local media in Niamey and backed by different OSINT sources, a convoy of FDS armoured vehicles early this week passes throup Diffa to Doutsi bridge along Komadougou Yobe river that separates Niger and Nigeria.
The objective of the military operation is to neutralize resistance and threat posed by Boko Haram terrorists. The armed forces are also keenly set to capture the Nigerien town of Damasak which is considered the militant’s stronghold.
Boko Haram which is an affiliate of the Middle East Based Islamic State launched attacks in northern Nigeria in 2009 and later has extended its campaigns to the neighbouring countries such as Niger, Cameroon and Chad.
The Nigerien army soldiers are more determined to eliminate this terrorist sect, Niamey local media reported.
