
Semi autonomous Puntland state have issued a terror alert warning of potential attacks by Al Shabaab splinter that recently shifted allegiance to the Islamic State militant group.
General Said Mohamed Hersi the Commander of Puntland forces warned that the faction that split from the parent Al Qaeda branch to Islamic State faction want to commit an attack to prove their capability and presence.
General Hersi, warned that the militants may commit the terror acts by use of explosive devices –IEDs, assassinations of personalities, suicide attacks and planting of roadside explosives.
According to a report on VOA Somali service, the new splinter under IS/ISIS also known as ISIL or Daesh has an active cell which might strike anytime, the General was quoted saying.
The General called security agencies in Somalia and broader East African nations to be on high terror alert for any eventuality citing the available intelligence is sufficient to indicate the Islamic State has an active cell in the war torn horn of Africa country.
General Hersi, called on security forces, government forces and AMISOM forces to be on standby ready to ‘respond and engage’.
He also called on logistical support from the Somali government as well from the international community.
